Adam White had high hopes to someday race in one of NASCAR's big leagues.

A few years ago, the 22-year-old from Suamico gave up dirt-track racing and turned his attention to asphalt competition. He teamed with a couple of pavement late model team owners, including Green Bay's Mike Butz, and competed at Norway (Mich.) Speedway and Marshfield Motor Speedway. He won some heat races, a rookie-of-the-year award at Norway and was a consistent middle-of-the-pack runner.

White quickly discovered being competitive on the area's asphalt tracks takes a pretty hefty checkbook. ...
