Old home provides training opportunity for local firefighters (with video)

An old house burned this week, and although firefighters battled the flames, they had no intention of saving the home.

The house provided fire departments from throughout Wood County with valuable training opportunities so firefighters will be more prepared for real emergencies, officials said.

More than a year ago, Wood County officials took possession of 223 acres north of Powers Bluff Park in Arpin. County officials were initially planning to demolish an old home that stood on the property and take the debris to a landfill, said Chad Schooley, Wood County Parks administrator. ...
