Green Bay Packers hit road to face San Francisco 49ers in season opener

The Green Bay Packers will put their offseason study of the read-option offense to use early this season.

They open the season against the defending NFC champion 49ers, the same team that used the read option to run them out of the playoffs last season, at 3:25 p.m. Sept. 8 at San Francisco. The NFL announced the 2013 schedule on Thursday.

In that 45-31 loss in an NFC divisional playoff game on Jan. 12 at San Francisco, the Packers gave up 579 yards to the 49ers. Of that yardage total, 323 came on the ground, including 181 by Colin Kaepernick (who set the NFL record for rushing yards by a quarterback). ...
