After flirting with the Packers, McLendon re-signs with Steelers

Apr. 18, 2013

Less than 24 hours after he visited the Packers, restricted free agent nose tackle Steve McLendon re-signed with his old team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, today.

The Steelers announced that they signed the 6-foot-4, 280-pound McLendon to a three-year contract. Multiple reports said the deal was worth $7.25 million and included $1.675 million guaranteed.

The Steelers originally put only the right-of-first-refusal tender, worth $1.323 million, on McLendon. Because he entered the league as an undrafted free agent, they would receive no compensation from a team that signed him.

McLendon visited with the Packers on Wednesday, his agent Sean Stellato confirmed on Thursday morning.

The deadline for other teams to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets is tomorrow. Even if the Packers had signed McLendon to an offer sheet, the Steelers would have had the right to match it.

The Packers have one remaining unsigned restricted free agent, cornerback Sam Shields.
