Marathon County officials are hopeful the state will add one more judge to serve along the five judges who already serve the county.

The county, however, doesn't have the physical space for a sixth judge, and adding another one could expedite the need for the county to forge ahead with a $72 million plan to expand its courthouse and government offices.

The state pays the $128,600 salary of circuit court judges, who handle civil and criminal cases, and the county hopes the governor will fund a new judge in the 2015 budget. ...
