Apr. 19, 2013

ALGOMA — A boat with four people in it capsized on Lake Michigan near Algoma Friday morning.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department said one of the occupants was picked up by a charter fishing vessel near the scene. The other three occupants made it to shore on their own, according to officials.

The capsizing occurred near the Algoma City Harbor around 6:30 a.m., not far off shore. Reports describe the incident happening 100 feet to 200 yards off shore.

Public safety officers from Algoma and other Kewaunee County agencies responded to the incident along with a Coast Guard boat crew from Sturgeon Bay.

The occupants were taken to Green Bay medical facilities byambulance for “precautionary observation.”

The incident was still being investigated Friday morning.
