The digital era was supposed to rain death on music's old world order, but vinyl and independent record stores didn't get the evacuation order.

Saturday's sixth annual Record Store Day offers plenty of evidence that fans and artists remain devoted to the visual and tactile pleasures of records and the experience of shopping for them in brick-and-mortar outlets.

This year, participating artists are serving up more than 350 releases, compared to 10 at the first event in 2008. Consumers bought 30,000 vinyl discs then and are expected to scoop up all 7 million units on Saturday. Hundreds of live ...
