April 19, 1950 - Board approves streamlining of committees: Over only minor objections and after a minimum of questions, the county board Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution streamlining the board's committee structure and setting regular meeting days each month.
Approval of the new committee plan paved the way for favorable board action next November on revision of the system under which board members are to be paid flat monthly salaries. At the present time, they are paid per diem and mileage.
The unanimous approval of the plan reducing committees from 34 to 15 and setting regular meetings on the third Tuesday of each month was unexpected but brought scattered applause when the vote was announced. The board's action was surprising in view of the opposition expressed prior to the meeting.
The proposal was presented by a special modernization-salary committee under the chairmanship of Harry E. Masse, board vice-chairman.
