Our late spring is bringing both blessings and frustration to anglers hoping to cash in on the annual spring runs of steelhead and suckers into Lake Michigan tributaries.

The late snowmelt combined with all the rain has creeks and rivers running high and dirty, testing the patience of those who in some years would already be fishing spawned-out trout and suckers in clear, shallow water.

A few anglers have had success by drifting spawn in the deeper holes, but many are waiting for the water to drop and warm up before intensifying their efforts. ...
