Letters to the editor: Nation's youth can still find way back to faith

At a recent gathering in Oshkosh with the young adult SPIRITUS leadership team from the Mt. Tabor Retreat Center in Menasha, I was happy to hear that they lead about 150 retreats per year at the center and beyond, hosting some 5,000 of our young people per year with the goal of igniting Faith in Catholic youth!

I was shocked to hear that about 85 percent of young people otherwise leave our Christian Catholic Church after confirmation. I asked if that was the not uncommon search elsewhere that many of us do as young adults, only to return to our roots later? I'm still prayerful that many eventually find other good Christian church homes, or somehow still go with Jesus.

I remember my early years being taken to church by my wonderful parents, sometimes when I preferred spending my time elsewhere. But now what peace and joy to thank and praise our creator God daily for sharing His gift of life and salvation with me, then especially in community at holy Mass regularly where we are spiritually fed by His holy word and Holy Communion with our great God!

Ole Satan and his kind appear to be winning many to temporal pleasures, but like them, each of us has been given free will to choose eternal life in heaven or hell. Choose wisely.

Among the many good books now available on near death experiences, you may especially enjoy Dr. Eben Alexander's book, "Proof of Heaven." Neurosurgeon Dr. Eben is a former non-believer in life beyond our time on this planet. Now he is excited to share his experience and new found belief in our amazing future life.
