ESPN Monday Night Football play by play announcer Mike Tirico has a soft spot in his heart for Green Bay. On Thursday the NFL released its 2013 schedule, and in an ESPN press release Tirico said Green Bay is one of his favorite destinations for covering a game.
“Through the years, going to Lambeau just feels so special,” said Tirico. “There’s really no place like it in all of the NFL. The stadium, although remodeled, still has the essence of the same place that was there a half century ago. The connection of Packer fans and the team is as unique and as strong a bond as you have in sports. So, just to get up to Green Bay, and everything’s quaint and comfortable and friendly, and to experience a Packers game on a Monday night, to me that still warms your heart.”
The Packers have one Monday Night Football game this season against the Chicago Bears on Nov. 4 at Lambeau Field. Tirico said he is looking forward to the matchup.
“We can already smell the bratwurst,” Tirico said. “There’s nothing like a game in Green Bay. We stay close to the stadium. You can walk right across the parking lot to the game and back and it’s so much fun to be there. When it’s the Bears and the Packers, there are 100 great story lines going in and atop all of them are the people and the rivalry, and I believe it’s the most played rivalry in the NFL. To be there for another chapter of it on Monday night will be fabulous. Hopefully it will be cold and those two teams will be where we expect them to be, battling each other in the NFC North.”
