Classic track meet Monday at Gibraltar

The 23rd annual Door County Classic track and field meet is scheduled for Monday at Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek. Field events start at 4 p.m.

Gibraltar, Sevastopol, Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door will compete for county boys and girls titles and the Harris Cup, awarded to the overall champion.

The Harris Cup is named after the late Chan Harris, former publisher of the Door County Advocate, which sponsors the meet.

Thunderhill cancels today's practice

Thunderhill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay has canceled today's practice session for area stock car drivers because of the cold, wet weather and poor track conditions.

The next practice session is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27. Drivers in all five classes can participate. Cars must be equipped with mufflers. Admission is $15 for drivers and $10 for pit crew.

Opening night at Thunderhill is scheduled for Saturday, May 4. Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m., with racing starting at 6.
