Get ready for some "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" time when Cavern Beat, a nationally known touring Beatles tribute band, comes to town! They will perform "The Best of the Beatles" at 7 p.m. May 4 at the Southern Door Community Auditorium for a show no one wants to miss.

The concert is sponsored by Ministry Door County Medical Center and proceeds will benefit several special projects at the school, such as the Eagle Community Walking Trail. Tickets are $10 each and available online at Invite a friend or two and get ready to "Act Naturally" and do the "Hippie Hippie Shake."

Recess Relay

Southern Door Elementary School's Community Recess Relay event will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Eagle Gym. Families and community members are welcome to attend and walk around the gym that will be decorated with white luminaries in honor or memory of people who have experienced cancer. A survivor lap will be held at 6:15 pm.

Educational booths from local community organizations will be set up as well. The YMCA will have an obstacle course set up in the middle of the gym for children to enjoy. Popcorn and water will be available.

FFA competitors

Fifteen Southern Door FFA members attended the regional FFA Career Development Events hosted by Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton April 6 to compete in thirteen different agricultural contests, such as dairy cattle evaluation, dairy products, floriculture, livestock evaluation, veterinary science, and wildlife.

Students' individual scores contributed to their overall team score. Notable results include Bridget Vandertie, who placed fifth out of 50 students in the veterinary science CDE, and the wildlife team, consisting of Jacob Babler, Mason LeMere, Zach Maurer and Mitchell Overbeck, which placed fifth out of the 26 teams.

The wildlife team qualified for the State FFA CDE contests and will compete at the University of Wisconsin-Madison later this month. Great job!

Adopt a Soldier

Don't forget to pick up some special items of encouragement for the Adopt a Soldier collection bin at the Brussels branch of Baylake Bank. Boxes will be packed and sent out military personnel from our area at the end of the month so they get arrive by Memorial Day.

Donations are tax-deductible; place your receipt with name and address on the back with your donated items in the collection box to receive an in-kind donation form by mail. Send monetary donations to the Forestville American Legion Auxiliary Post 372 (note that it is for Adopt a Soldier) at 1603 Country DK, Brussels, WI 54204 or stop in at Baylake Bank to make a donation. BUG fundraiser

A Kentucky Derby fundraising event for the Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. May 4 at the Brussels Countryside Diner.

Enjoy races, games, prizes, and drink specials with proceeds helping to fill an enclosed trailer donated to the fire department by the owner of the diner so it can be used as an emergency response trailer. The fire department will use it to transport extra supplies such as safety cones, portable barricades, portable shade tents, and comfort supplies used on larger incidents that last longer periods of time.

If you attend the event, please consider bringing along some supplies to donate to the emergency trailer, including drinking water, coffee, hot chocolate, Styrofoam coffee cups, napkins, disinfectant wet wipes, blankets, batteries, LED flashlights, hand warmers, garbage bags, ice melt, and rubber insulated gloves. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

Children's theater

Missoula Children's Theatre public performance of "The Secret Garden" will be at 1 p.m. April 27 at the Southern Door Community Auditorium. EV Fun Day

The fourth annual Emergency Vehicle Fun Day, hosted by the Door County Sheriff's Department, will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 5 on the grounds of the Door County Cherryland Airport. Kid can sit in a police car, fire up the siren in a fire truck, turn on the lights of an ambulance, sit in a United States Coast Guard boat, check out the Eagle III helicopter and Civil Air Patrol aircraft, and much more.

This event is a great opportunity for older kids to meet and talk to the many professionals on site about potential careers. Admission to the event is free. Sonny's Pizzeria and Marchant's Meats of Sturgeon Bay will be onsite selling food and drinks.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Galen DeJardin on April 26. Enjoy the day and many more to come!
