Beautify your yard and benefit Sevastopol School's Destination ImagiNation teams by ordering plants during the eighth annual Mother's Day Flower Sale. This year, the DI teams are selling absolutely stunning hanging baskets, gerbera daisies and geranium patio planters with orders due by May 3.
Daisies are priced at $6, with plants and baskets ranging from $25 to $30 each. There will be a variety of types and colors to choose from in decorative pots and planters.
Orders can be picked up before Mother's Day between 2:30 and 5:30 pm May 10 in the school's multipurpose room. Be sure to arrive early for the best color selection!
The money raised supplements trip costs for the DI teams to competition events. Plus, the group is using a local vendor, SunnyPoint Gardens of Egg Harbor, as its plant source. Call the school at (920) 743-6283 with any questions.
The Sevastopol Town Board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Town Hall. Members will consider funding for the beach testing program of public beaches in Door County.
The state Department of Natural Resources previously provided federal funding; however, the program has not identified any money going forward. With 300 miles of shoreline and more than 30 public beaches, Door County has a lot at stake. Local agencies and government units are exploring ways to financially support the beach monitoring program which costs about $56,000 per year.
Other agenda items include the election of a vice chairman and the 2012 annual fire report. The Sturgeon Bay Fire Department responded to 71 calls this past year, completed 150 business premise inspections and also provided public fire safety programs at several locations.
Thank you to all our residents and others who attended the annual town meeting this past Tuesday evening. There was good participation in discussing a number of items and a fine assortment of donated refreshments enjoyed by all.
Celebrate Earth Day
Earth Day is Monday, and worldwide events are scheduled to demonstrate support for our environment. Sevastopol's cable channel 986 will be carrying environmental, ecological and sustainability programs all weekend, this Saturday and Sunday, in an "Earth Day Marathon" of shows. To see how you can help save the earth, tune in to Channel 986.
Sevastopol FFA members will also honor Earth Day and join in a beautification program by planting flowering crab apple trees in Jacksonport next week.
A "Trash N' Treasure" rummage sale will be hosted by the Sevastopol junior class from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27 in the high school gym. This will be flea market style with more than 60 tables of household items, antiques, Christmas decorations, toys, sports equipment, books, clothes and more.
Everything will be priced to sell, with easy parking and open to the public. Come early and enjoy the free coffee, plus baked goods for sale. For more information, call Cassie Cibik-Moeller, (920) 743-6282, Ext. 120.
