Letter: Majority doesn't want more gun laws

A shameful day for Washington? Really, Mr. President? Meaningful gun control? Really? Ninety percent of the American people support tougher gun laws? Really, Mr. President? That is a bold-faced lie! Your deception with this unfounded, manipulated, false statistic is deplorable. Yes, if I were to ask 100 people if they support background checks for firearms purchases, I would get 90 people who support that measure. In fact, I agree with that.

However, these background checks are already in place. It's already the case at gun shows (I know from personal experience), and through Internet purchases (which must be shipped to a licensed, federal firearms dealer who then must run a background check before they hand the gun over). So, what additional legislation do you claim 90 percent of Americans want to see? You've manipulated the reasonable public acceptance of a five-minute background check to re-write their desires as "additional gun control." Completely maniacal!

Shame on me? Shame on the lawful gun owner of America? To that, I would reply "shame on anyone who felt this was the answer to the horrible massacre at Sandy Hook." The gun control measures were nothing more than a feel good "at least we did something" that would accomplish nothing. What it would have done is given people false impressions that the "problem is solved." While the real issues of horrible violence by unstable lunatics could be swept under the rug. It's time to do some soul searching of how these monsters manifest and remain living among us, unchecked.

(Vice President Joe) Biden preached "if this just saves one life, it will be worth it." Well, Mr. Biden, what about the lives that are saved by the "good guys with a gun?" Don't we have a right to protect ourselves from these monsters? Check out the website: rationalityrebooted.com to see how the good guys are taking the fun out of crime every day. There are three to five daily stories that are completely verifiable by the listed media source. I find it quite curious how none of these stories make the national news.
