Each year, 192 countries raise their consciousness of the planet and remind themselves of the natural resources they have and how they can preserve them for future generations. What is this day of celebration? Earth Day, April 22, was founded by Wisconsin Sen. Gaylord Nelson in 1970.

Most people equate Earth Day with recycling. The more we recycle, the more waste we keep out of landfills helping to keep the earth healthy. But just as Earth Day and the education surrounding it have evolved over the years, so has the way we refer to ways people can do their part.
