Marian softball nets split with Rockford

Emily Gorges tossed a three-hitter with five strikeouts and the Marian University softball team scored three runs in each of the first two innings en route to a 7-1 win over Rockford College on Saturday.

The win came in the first game of a doubleheader split as Rockford took the nightcap 4-1.

Emilie Jansen belted a three-run home run in the first game as the Sabres jumped out to a 6-0 lead and cruised to the win. Nikki Ponticelli was 3-for-4 in the win. ...
