Door County Sheriff Terry Vogel has issued a warning about another telephone scam scheme to obtain unsuspecting residents' personal financial information.
Over the past several weeks, Door County residents have received telephone calls from people claiming to represent security companies, stating that medical and/or security systems have been purchased for them by family members and they were coming to the residents' home to install it, Vogel said in a news release.
When the homeowner replies they know nothing about the system, the caller gets very aggressive. Homeowners are concerned that someone will come to their home, but this does not occur.
The telephone number the caller leaves is out of service, the sheriff said. The caller will likely try to obtain credit card or bank information from the home owner.
"If you get a call like this, hang up immediately and do not give out any personal or financial information," Vogel said.
The Door County Sheriff's Department reminds everyone to be vigilant and not give out any information over the telephone when receiving these types of calls. Being aware and protecting personal information and assets is the best defense against these scams.
