I am a lifelong sportsman. I own guns for purpose of hunting. I am not worried that the government is trying to take away those guns or infringe upon my Second Amendment rights. I am worried about the selfishness and lack of humanity of the NRA.
To stand up for the Second Amendment is great. The intractable positions of the NRA are selfish almost beyond belief. Universal background checks, limiting magazine size and even banning military style assault rifles won't bring a single life back that has been lost in recent senseless violence. These measures may, however, prevent the loss of innocent life in the future.
The NRA positions have nothing to do with hunting and little to do with self-defense. To a hunter that "needs" a clip that holds more than five bullets, I say practice a little harder and show some respect for the animals you are trying to harvest. To those worried about home invasions requiring massive return fire power, I say worry more about getting struck by lightning, because the odds are much greater of the latter happening. The argument that happiness depends upon freedom from background checks and the fun of owning massive firepower is nothing but selfishness at the expense of our humanity.
