Wausau asks county to cap animal shelter funds (with video)

About 100 people attended a meeting Tuesday discussing a resolution drafted by Wausau that urges the county to limit its funding for the Humane Society of Marathon County.

Despite public opposition, the Wausau City Council approved in a 7-4 vote a resolution that requests that the county fund care for stray dogs and cats for no more than seven days.

The Humane Society shelters stray dogs and cats for too long, the resolution says, and has caused financial distress for the shelter. The average cat stays at the Humane Society for 30 days and the average dog for 18 days, according to shelter ...
