April 24, 1951 - War effort hits Soap Box Derby parts supply: The mobilization effort has cut into the supply of Soap Box Derby wheel and axle sets for this year's Derby. Wheel sets are now being allocated by national headquarters to each of the 150 cities participating, and the sponsors of the Green Bay race have frozen all sets here until they find out definitely how many Green Bay will get.

Green Bay had ordered through Firestone 75 sets of wheels and axles for this year's race. Last week local sponsors were informed that 25 sets had been allocated to Green Bay. An immediate protest was dispatched to National headquarters at Detroit, stating that Green Bay needed at least 50 sets. Green Bay was informed this morning that there is a possibility we may get 50 sets, but the final figure will not be known for several days yet.
