Wausau public access channel could charge for programming

Wausau could become the first city in the state to charge people for airing programs on the city's public access channel.

The city is considering a $5 fee for every 15 minutes someone airs shows on the channel, one of the channel's managers, Kristopher Berge, said Wednesday. Berge said the proposal was suggested by city staff members and is meant to help raise revenue to run the channel, which is operating on a $39,000 budget this year.

Those charges would mean that St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Wausau would have to pay $1,000 a year to broadcast its weekly church service on public access, said ...
