Reader question: Just wondering if you could let me know if you find out if Bill Sebastian has any plans to join another radio station. He was the only reason (other than Brewers games) that I listed to WHBY. Cannot find another local talk radio station like Bill’s. Anything you can let me know would be appreciated.
Answer: Bill Sebastian called after he saw my last post about his firing, and he’s as perplexed as you are.
As previously mentioned, he was let go from his morning talk show on WHBY. Station program director Dave Edwards said the decision to let Sebastian go and replace him with “America’s Radio News” was done to create a “broader appeal” for programming in the the 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. timeslot.
“I was fired without cause, without notice and without what I could consider an adequate reason. I was told “it isn’t you, it’s us,” Sebastian told me this week. “I just want to say if he’s trying to imply that my audience was not large enough, he better be prepared to fire everyone else at the station. Dave Edwards and I were the top of the ratings at that station.”
Sebastian characterized his ratings and annual reviews as “excellent” and noted “you don’t expect this to happen to someone who hits home runs.”
He is currently looking for another job.
