Algoma's recent notification that it has earned "Bird City Wisconsin" status is good news, but truth be told, the whole county is brimming with colorful winged wildlife these days.

From diver ducks and shorebirds you only see once or twice a year - during spring and fall migration - to bluebirds that have returned to claim nest boxes, Kewaunee County's shorelines, fields and forests are alive with hungry birds.

The sharpest-eyed among us will also be seeing multiple warbler species in the coming days and weeks, with peak migration of many from late April to mid-May. ...
