The Green Bay Packers are actively shopping inside linebacker Desmond Bishop, according to a report from NFL.comís Daniel Jeremiah.

Bishop missed all of last season because of a torn hamstring he suffered in the teamís first preseason game against San Diego on Aug. 9, but led the team with 115 tackles and added five sacks in 2011.

Bishop signed a four-year, $19 million deal at the start of the 2011 season in the wake of cutting veteran Nick Barnett shortly after the NFL lockout ended.

The news comes days after the Packers waived undersized D.J. Smith, who replaced Bishop in the starting lineup after his injury, in a move Packers general manager Ted Thompson was necessary to make room on the roster for college free-agency.

Itís uncertain if the Packers are looking to clear cap room in the wake of Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthewsí extensions or simply find Bishop expendable after re-signing Brad Jones and restructuring A.J. Hawkís contract this offseason.

Jones moved inside from outside linebacker during training camp and stepped in after Smith suffered a season-ending knee injury on Oct. 14, finishing last season opposite Hawk as the teamís starting inside linebackers.

Behind Jones, Hawk and Bishop, the team has last yearís fifth-round pick Terrell Manning, re-signed veteran Robert Francois and converted outside linebacker Jamari Lattimore.

Lattimore and Francois have been predominately used on special teams and combined for only eight defensive snaps last season.
