The Green Bay Packers used their compensatory fifth-round pick to address their defensive line with Mississippi State’s Josh Boyd.
The 6-foot-2 5/8, 310-pound defensive tackle had 33 tackles (2½ for loss) and 1½ sacks in 13 games as a senior. He started seeing action as a true freshman in a reserve capacity before starting 37 of his final 38 collegiate games.
Pro Football Weekly said he likely only fits in a 4-3 scheme with ordinary power while being credited for his range and flexibility as a 300-pounder.
The Packers have five defensive linemen entering the final year of their contracts, including B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett and C.J. Neal.
Boyd is the fourth defensive linemen the Packers have drafted in the past two years, including 2013 first-round pick Datone Jones.
