Thompson pleased with Packers' haul

Apr. 27, 2013

Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson spoke after the conclusion of the NFL draft on Saturday. Here are some highlights:

♦ We finally made it through the draft. Iím going to have to get back up there and help those guys out.

♦ I felt pretty good. I think most teams would give you the same answer. Youíre able to do some things you didnít think you could. We were able to bring in a full 11, 12 guys onto our team and workout this summer and see how they compete and compare with the guys we have. We feel good.

♦ Weíre adding to (running backs).

♦ Liked (running back Johnathan) Franklin, thought he was good value at that spot. Hope quite a bit, hope we improved all facets today.

♦ We felt draft was pretty solid through the middle rounds. We wanted to try to accumulate some picks. Our team, I wonít get into specifics about injuries.

♦ Charles (Johnson) had a really good Pro Day workout. We think heís a good receiver. Didnít get invited to combine. We brought him in for a visit to get checked out and visit with him. Kevin Dorsey, a lot the same. They had a number of injuries, so it was tough being a receiver.

♦ In general, weíre always trying to help. This particular draft, it wasnít a set thing that we had to help our quarterback. Weíre trying to help our team.

♦ Upgraded speed.

♦ (Linebacker Nate) Palmer is good, athletically. Stood up and was a down lineman. Heís good prototype size.

♦ Eddie Lacy isnít the most physical running back heís seen. Ahman Green was pretty rough character. Difficult to compare a guy.

♦ Itís hard to predict. Things can happen. We do like for our guys to be of a certain character. We try our best to make sure thatís the case. We look through a lot of different records and things. Thatís been going on since last May.
