The Green Bay Packers used their final pick in the seventh round (No. 232) on South Florida linebacker Sam Barrington.
School: University of South Florida
Height, weight: 6-foot-1, 246.
Highlights: Earned second team all-Big East honors while recording 80 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss. Was a starter for the past three seasons while starting 36 of 49 career games at South Florida. Ran a 4.69 40-yard dash on his pro-day while registering 37 inch vertical jump.
Strengths: Big hands. Nice bulk. Good pursuit effort. Experience dropping into zone coverage. Posted a 37-inch vertical leap at his pro day. Versatile three-year starter.
Weaknesses: Not instinctive – see-and-go reactor. Poor eye discipline. Unsudden. Exposed in space. Tight hips and lower-body stiffness – struggles to change direction. Not a drive through blowup tackler. Maturity should be looked into.
Noteworthy: Ranked the 18th-best middle linebacker prospect by Rivals.com. Benched press 225 pounds 22 times at the combine.
Quote: “He is athletic and has good size. We were surprised he was still available in the seventh round…we think he is a pretty good player.” – Ted Thompson, Green Bay Packers general manager
