Notebook: 5 offseason practices open to public

Five of the Green Bay Packersí offseason practices will be open to the public, weather permitting, on Clarke Hinkle Field.

The Packers announced Monday that the open organized team activity practices will be on three Tuesdays ó May 21, May 28 and June 11 ó and will begin at 11:30 a.m. Two mandatory minicamp practices on June 4 and June 5 also are open, but times havenít been announced.

The Packers said they will use Hinkle Field during the offseason because of ongoing field preparations for training camp on Ray Nitschke Field. Open OTA and minicamp practices will be standing room only along the Oneida Street side of Hinkle Field.

The Packersí rookie orientation camp May 10-12 isnít open to the public.

OTA practices will be May 20-22, May 28-30 and June 11-14, with the minicamp on June 4-6 in between OTAs.

Players will report for training camp Thursday, July 25 with the first practice on July 26.

Gibbs released

The Packers cleared more room on their roster with the release of guard Joe Gibbs.

A first-year player out of Tennessee-Martin, the 6-foot-4, 315-pound Gibbs was on the practice squad for the final six regular-season games and both playoff games last season.

The roster stands at 75 players, including the confirmation by Press-Gazette Media of 10 undrafted free agents who were signed after the draft. The team can carry 90 players on its roster during the offseason.
