Joint dispatch moves to final approval in May

The city of Stevens Point and Portage County will operate a joint 911 dispatch center, and plan to open it as early as August.

On Monday, the City Council agreed to send the final pact between the city and county to the city's Police and Fire Commission. Once approved by that commission, it will come back to the council in May for final approval.

Stevens Point Mayor Andrew Halverson said the council agreed no more discussion was needed between the city and county after the agreement was adjusted to open the center by Aug. 4, rather than in January. ...
