Domtar Corp. earnings up, sales down

Domtar Corp. experienced a 60.8 percent increase in net earnings during the first quarter, the Canadian papermaker recently announced.

The company reported net earnings of $45 million, or $1.29 a share, for the quarter, compared to $28 million, or 76 cents a share, during the first quarter of 2012, according to documents the company filed last week with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The quarter included the March 22 sale of the company's vacant Port Edwards mill to Columbus, Ohio-based DMI Acquisitions.
