Amber Schubert knew she was taking over an experienced team with high expectations following a WIAA Division 3 state tournament appearance last year.

What the first-year Algoma softball coach didn't know was she was inheriting a structure simply known by her players as "the facility."

The facility houses three pitching machines and its 32-by-55-foot floor is covered with strips of field turf, giving aspiring softball players of all ages in Algoma an opportunity to pitch or hit on a year-round basis. ...
