U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson brought his message of fiscal responsibility to St. Norbert College Wednesday, talking also about family, health care and defense.

To Johnson, those are money issues as well. The Oshkosh Republican said he's often accused of wanting to put the United States on an austerity plan, but there's little danger of that happening.

"Nobody in total is proposing cutting anything," he said, pointing out that federal spending is climbing. He said the U.S. House budget proposal would spend $5 trillion in 10 years, and President Obama's plan would allocate $5.7 trillion. Federal ...
