CHICAGO - Integrys Energy Group, parent company of Wisconsin Public Service Corp., reported sharply higher earnings in the first quarter, largely the result of a more normal winter than in 2012.

Integrys said it earned $187.5 million, or $2.37 per share, in the first three months of 2013, compared to $98.9 million, or $1.25 per share, in 2012's first quarter. On an adjusted basis, which excludes items not comparable from one period to the next, earnings were 13 percent higher at $139.9 million, or $1.76 per share.

Contributing to the increase was a $10 million positive impact due to a regulatory decision in Illinois, higher natural gas sales and an electric rate increase in Wisconsin.
