From spas to cupcakes, new businesses pop up

The Cupcake Couture is the newest of new businesses springing up around the region.

Michelle Axford of De Pere launched the business one year ago from her home, but on Saturday she is opening a retail store at 124 N. Broadway in De Pere. Other owners include her husband, Rob Axford, her parents, Mark and Gayle Shovald, and friends James and Tamika Jones. Jones is a Green Bay Packers receiver.

The Cupcake Couture will open at 9 a.m. Saturday. A ribbon cutting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. The store is in the Lee Building, in the space formerly occupied by Hansen's Dairy and Deli. ...
