Jan Stenerud wasn't drafted during the time of multimillion-dollar contracts and nationally televised draft coverage.

In 1966, there wasn't even a phone call to notify Stenerud of his third-round selection in the AFL future draft, but rather a telegram sent to the athletic department of his college, Montana State.

He never forgot what it read: "Congratulations. You've been drafted in the third round of the AFL futures draft. We'll see you in Kansas City next year." ...
