Sheboygan hate crime trial delayed

A jury trial for a 45-year-old Sheboygan man accused of a hate crime last year has been delayed at the request of his attorney.

Peter R. Vreeke's trial, which was set to begin today, was initially adjourned as the two sides appeared to have reached a plea deal.

However, Vreeke and defense attorney, Kirk Obear, appeared in court and instead asked that the trial be rescheduled to allow time to review a recent but unrelated arrest of the victim in the case, along with allegations of racism and excessive force that the victim has since made against Sheboygan police. ...
