Marshfield fire chief to retire May 24

After 31 years serving in the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department, Fire Chief Jim Schmidt, 53, is ready to retire.

Firefighters and community members interviewed said Schmidt's dedication, energy and enthusiasm will be missed when he retires May 24.

"It's time for me to retire," said Schmidt, adding he has no future plans other than to enjoy the new home outside the city limits he and his wife Maureen recently purchased. ...
