Once on the edges of pop culture, comic books and their superheroes now find mass appeal

Comic book fans, this is your time. "Iron Man 3" opened Friday and is dominating the box office. On Saturday, comic book stores across the country celebrated the annual Free Comic Book Day. The hottest sitcom on television, "The Big Bang Theory," wallows in comic book geekdom nightly in endless syndication. And this summer promises big-screen appearances by Superman and the Wolverine.

NAMI and The Arc, two small Fox Valley nonprofits, teamed up to purchase a downtown office building. Leaders say the project offers stability, more space and will allow each to improve programming due to shared cost.
