SNC roundup: Green Knights split pair at MWC softball tournament

APPLETON - The St. Norbert softball team split a pair of games at the Midwest Conference Championship, falling to Cornell 9-3 in its first game before defeating Lake Forest 8-5 to stay alive in the tournament.

In its first game, Cornell scored six runs in the seventh inning to take control of the game.

Samantha Gross went 2-for-4 with two runs scored to lead the Green Knights.

Against Lake Forest, Steph Brunette went 3-for-4 and Jessica DeMeuse drove in three runs as St. Norbert (20-14) scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the lead.

St. Norbert will face Lawrence today, needing a win to advance in the double-elimination tournament.

Men's Golf

ROCKFORD, Ill. - St. Norbert won its first MWC golf championship, topping Monmouth College by five strokes in the league tournament at Aldeen Golf Club. The Green Knights earned an automatic berth into NCAA Division III touranment, which will be held on May 14-17 in Destin, Fla.

Nic Vrubley of St. Norbert was the individual champion, marking the first time a St. Norbert golfer won the MWC individual championship. The top 10 place finishers plus ties earn all-Midwest Conference honors.
