Did you know Door County has more wineries than any other county in Wisconsin?
They'll celebrating the arrival of wine season - although some would argue there is no wine off-season - with a new event May 17-19. Each of the seven member wineries of the Door County Wine Trail Weekend have special activities planned:
» Von Steihl Winery, Algoma:Barrel tasting of this year's vintage wines, 10 a.m. May 18.
» Red Oak Winery & Vineyard, Sturgeon Bay: Salsa/Latin Night, 7-11 p.m. May 17, with salsa dance lesson, glass of sangria and salsa and chips; $10.
» Door Peninsula Winery, Sturgeon Bay: Wine and chocolate tastings, 1 and 3 p.m. May 18 and 1 p.m. May 19; $30.
» Simon Creek Vineyard & Winery, Sturgeon Bay: Free wine tasting, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., with free tours at 2 p.m. Music by Mickey Grasso on the deck, 1-5 p.m. May 19.
» Harbor Ridge Winery, Egg Harbor: Music by Dan Hanson and Peter Llanas, 1-5 p.m. May 18, along with complimentary samples of wine and cheese.
» Orchard Country Winery & Market, Fish Creek: Complimentary wine tasting, guided wine tours. Music by Bob Bero, 4-7 p.m. May 17. Grilling experts Mad Dog and Merrill, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. May 18.
» Stone's Throw Winery, between Egg Harbor and Baileys Harbor: Original recipe meatballs with wine tastings.
