Legislation lets counties keep funds from welfare ...: Monday, May 6: Northeastern Wisconsin lawmakers are backing bill to let counties keep some of the proceeds from welfare fraud busts.

Counties could prevent more welfare fraud if they could keep some of the proceeds from fraud busts, state and Brown County lawmakers said Monday.

A bipartisan group of state representatives from the Green Bay area said they will introduce a bill that would enable Wisconsin counties to keep the equivalent of 20 percent of the value of the welfare fraud they prevent. The money would help cover the costs of fraud-prevention efforts, Rep. Chad Weininger, R-Allouez, said.
