Wet wind farm sites delay tower section shipments

The S.S. Badger arrived in port mid-day Monday with more than 100 passengers, as well as commercial vehicles, on the first sailing of the 2013 season.

However, when it left Manitowoc about two hours later for the 60-mile Lake Michigan crossing to Ludington, Mich., it didn't have any wind tower sections from Broadwind Towers & Heavy Industries and its manufacturing plant on the Manitowoc River peninsula.

Terri Brown, Lake Michigan Carferry's director of marketing and media relations, explained that wet wind farm construction sites have delayed tower section shipments. ...
