A potato broker pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of failing to pay farmers for potato shipments.

Thomas Lundgren, owner of Spud City Sales, 1717 Fourth Ave. in Stevens Point, will appear in court June 24 for a pretrial conference after pleading not guilty to nine counts of theft in a business setting.

According to the criminal complaint, Lundgren didn't pay Portage County and other farmers $750,000 for potato shipments dating back to 2011. Potato brokers help farmers sell large quantities of their produce to wholesale buyers. ...
