The Department of Administration awarded the city of Wausau $448,440 grants to help local residents buy homes or rehabilitate homes in the area.
Those grants will help Wausau residents, whose income is at or below 80 percent of the county's median income, pay their down payment or closing costs or for new construction on a home. They also will assist homeowners in making energy-related repair, fix property code violations, add accessibility enhancements or reduce lead-based paint hazards to their property.
The Department of Administration's Division of Housing awards home buyer and rehabilitation grants for municipalities and organizations around the state every two years. This year, the DOA awarded $9.7 million. The grants are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development HOME Investment Partnership Program.
The Antigo Housing Authority also was awarded $181,765 in home rehabilitation and home buyer assistance.
