Main break leaves 300 Kimberly customers without natural gas

May 8, 2013

KIMBERLY — A busted gas main has left about 300 We Energies customers in Kimberly without natural gas Wednesday.

Construction crews were working in the 500 block of Kimberly Avenue when the line started leaking Wednesday morning, said Brian Manthey, We Energies spokesman.

We Energies workers are repairing the break, but the steel main had to be closed off to stop the gas leak during repairs, Manthey said. The affected customers will likely be without natural gas for most of the day, he added.

While repairs are made, Fox Valley Metropolitan Police closed off roads at the following intersections: Kimberly Avenue and James Street, Clark Street and Villa Drive, Railroad and Second streets, said Officer Scott VanSchyndel, of Fox Valley Metro Police.

The roads will reopen once the repairs are completed.
