Local plant sales

In time for Mother's Day on Sunday, May 12, two area groups are holding plant sales.

Horticulture students from De Pere High School are selling an array of plants in the greenhouse on the south side of the school, 1700 Chicago St., until Friday, May 10. The hours for the FFA plant sale are 3 to 4:30 p.m. each day.

The Ashwaubenon Historical Society is holding the 18th annual Community Wide Plant Sale and Bake Sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11, at the historical society building, 737 Cormier Road, Ashwaubenon.

The event includes plants galore at rock-bottom prices as well as the popular 50-cent cup of coffee and homemade bars, pies and cookies. Village forester Tim Bauknecht will answer questions.

Groundbreaking for SNC science center

St. Norbert College in De Pere will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Gehl-Mulva Science Center at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 10.

The public ceremony will be at the site of the new facility on the south side of campus between the old John Minahan Science Hall and Boyle Hall. A social will follow the ceremony.

In the event of rain, the ceremony and the social will be held in Ray Van Den Heuvel Family Campus Center.

The 150,000-square-foot facility will include a complete renovation of the 50-year-old science building and a 57,800-square-foot addition. The science center also will be home to the Medical College of Wisconsin's Green Bay campus.

Birder Chorale performs season finale

St. Norbert College's Dudley Birder Chorale will give its season-ending choral pops concert, "America Sings," at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Walter Theatre on the De Pere campus, 315 Third St.

The concert will include Broadway favorites and a patriotic salute to America and gospel music.
