? The Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation NE regional office at Green Bay is announcing that work is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, May 5, on approximately 1.3 miles of the US 41 bypass around the City of Oconto from Frog Pond Rd. to Mill St.

? Effective, April 12, after winning election to County Board Supervisor Dist 28 on April 1, Deputy Terry Brazeau retired from the Oconto County Sheriff's Dept. Serving over 30 years of Law Enforcement starting in 1975 as a Special Deputy for Sheriff Gerald Gehling, 1976 Crime Prevention Officer, 1977-85 Dispatcher/Jailer, 1985-2008 promoted to Road Deputy and during this time working for Sheriff's Ken Woodworth, Doug McMahon and Mike Jansen.

? On Saturday, April 26, the Oconto High School Class of 2009 hosted their Junior Prom, A Night in Paris. Representing their class as this year's King and Queen are Frank Peters and Cassie Ebekin.

? Oconto Varsity Boys Track Team are Ben Thome, Brandon Jelinek, Mike Nerenhausen, Adam Orth, Garrett Clark, Mike Calvert, Joe Pinkart, Landon James, Cory Elton, Nathan Cox, Ben Elton, Tyler Klozotsky, Luke Ratzburg, Anthony Baye, Preston Pettit, Alex Mauritz, Jordan Grauvogl, Garth Hebel and Steve Hamann.

? Oconto Golf Team players are Mason Grygiel, Casey Wusterbarth, Brad Loberger, David Sohrweide and Steve Stewart.

? Effective last Thursday, May 1, the ban on feeding and baiting deer ended in Oconto County and throughout the state. But the ban which has been in effect since last year will resume Sept. 1 when permanent rules intended to help the state fight chronic wasting disease take effect. The state's temporary ban on baiting and feeding deer actually expired Wednesday since a legislative committee and the Natural Resources Board didn't take action to extend it.

? Oconto County Handicapped Citizen's organization held their Annual Prom on Saturday, April 26, at the Bill Lazansky Community Building in Mountain. The theme for this year's event was "Heavenly Nights." President of OCHCA, Eugene Nemojeski announced Lorna Statler was the Queen and Milan Ziesmer the King.

? Oconto Varsity Blue Devils Baseball team are Scott Bancroft, Dustin Hass, Cory Trepanier, Dan Delforge, Erek Belongia, Nick Kordiyak, Michael Santspree, Andy Heroux, Brian Kushava, John Walker, Jordan Geurts, Beu Ferris, Chris Rhode and Nick Feldman. Coaches are Brian Sohrweide and Mike Ruechel.

? Mrs. Richard (Sue) Jacquart was re-elected president of the Oconto City Council at its meeting Tuesday night. She was elected to her third two-year term on the board at the April 5 election. She represents Ward 8.

? Tina Wojner is Valedictorian of the graduating class of 1988. She is the daughter of Gerry and Mary Wojner of Oconto. Heather Trepanier is Salutatorian and is the daughter of Roger and Linda Trepanier of Oconto.

? Robert Wardecke, Oconto County coroner, announces his candidacy for county clerk in the fall election. Gaylord Strehlow, county clerk the past 12 years, said he will retire at the end of this term.

? The Oconto High Math Team recently placed eighth in the entire state of Wisconsin at the 1987-88 State Math Competition (Class B). Members are Matt Lesneski, Heather Trepanier, Shannon Dooley, Rick Pecha, Mai Svepatana, Tina Wojner, Ted Ballestad and Lisa Schultz. Coaches are William Norris and Jim Manzetti.

? Valedictorian of the Class of 1988 at Lena High School is Todd Dembroski. Salutatorian is Vincent Kison.

50 years ago - May 9, 1963

? Ron Kiefer arrived in Oconto Tuesday to take over as the new manager of the Oconto Gamble Store, succeeding Clifford Virch.

? Reverend A. Chellew was installed as pastor of two Suring area churches, Trinity Lutheran, Maple Valley and St. John Lutheran, Hayes.

75 years ago - May 6, 1938

? Robert VanWie, 6, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.F. LeMay of Appleton, was saved from drowning Saturday morning when he was rescued from the Oconto River by Buddy Lade, 24.

? Walter Harvey Jr., 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Harvey of this city, is at his parents' home today recovering from injuries received in a shooting in Minneapolis Saturday morning when bandits robbed a safe in an establishment of which he was a customer.

? Mrs. Louise Payne, Mrs. Molly Hassenfelt, Mrs. Stella Reed, Mrs. Dora Ansorge and Mrs. Agnes Derpinghause attended a meeting of the Rebekah Lodge in Sturgeon Bay Wednesday.

? Wesley Newcomb, local WCA recreational leader at Suring, has been appointed coach and manager of the Suring American Legion junior baseball team.

? Myron Cardinal, Kenneth Sauter, Robert O'Neil and Norman Wachal are attending the Scout leaders advance training course being held once each week for five weeks in Marinette.

? Miss Eileen Armstrong was operated on Tuesday for appendicitis.

? Last Monday night about 11:30 A.E. Urquhart was injured at the Holt Lumber Co. mill by getting his right foot against one of the wood saws, which sawed a gash through the two bones at the outer side of his foot.

? About twenty ladies surprised Mrs. Gustave Werth at her home on Superior avenue Tuesday evening in honor of her birthday anniversary.

? The marriage of Miss Hilda H. Johnson and Albert Paro was solemnized this morning at nine o'clock, Rev. Fr. Campbell tying the nuptial knot.

? Lena - The bazaar, given by the ladies of St. Charles church Monday and Tuesday, was a success financially and socially. Adolph Sharrow acted as auctioneer. The two sacks of flour were received by Joseph Skochpol and Miss Emma Klimish.
