Man gets two years probation for dog-raccoon fight

A Suring man who forced his hunting dog and a raccoon into a fight, after which he shot and killed the dog, was sentenced to two years of probation in Oconto County Circuit Court.

Paul W. Detert, 21, will serve 30 days in jail (with good time and work release privileges) as conditions of probation, Judge Michael T. Judge decided on May 1.

The fight - intended as training for the dog - was "cruel beyond any measure I can think of," Judge told Detert. ...
