Wausau officials are considering postponing enforcement of a city ordinance that requires residents to pave their gravel driveways by next year after a backlash from residents upset by the rule.

The city notified residents for the first time in an April newsletter that an ordinance the Wausau City Council passed in 2008 requires all residential driveways to be paved by Sept. 30, 2014. The work, which is intended to reduce the amount of gravel washed down sewers and eliminate blight, could cost property owners thousands of dollars.
